EV Charging Rewards Canada: Pion Power vs ChargeLab

Last checked: October 2, 2026. All amounts are in Canadian dollars.

EV charging rewards in Canada can return money or gift cards for charging at home. I participate in both Pion Power GreenMiles and ChargeLab Rewards in BC, and my experience with both has been pretty good. I started with Pion as I only had 110V available, but now that I have a Level 2 charger, I plan to start using Chargelab next.

This guide compares the rewards, eligibility and catches that matter before signing up.

How do EV charging rewards work?

These providers use verified charging data to generate value through Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations credit market. Part of that value supports customer rewards.

An installation rebate helps pay for a charger; ongoing charging rewards are based on eligible energy delivered. Rates and program terms can change.

Pion Power vs ChargeLab: which makes sense?

Pion Power GreenMiles

GreenMiles is straightforward if you already own an eligible Pion charger: connect it to Wi-Fi, activate the program and earn points. Cash redemption is annual, so it suits people comfortable waiting for payment.

A temporary offer raises rewards to 16¢/kWh on subsequent eligible charging after 5,000 cumulative kWh, only during October 1–December 31, 2026. Earlier charging is not repriced.

Pion currently offers both people 200 GreenMiles points worth $20 for a qualifying referral.

ChargeLab Rewards

ChargeLab is worth checking first if you already have a compatible smart charger, including supported Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Autel and EVDuty models. Confirm your exact model before switching, generally OCPP chargers are supported.

The advantage is avoiding another charger purchase. The trade-off is quarterly gift cards, rather than current cash payouts. ChargeLab announces cash payouts by the end of 2026; that remains a planned change. Some chargers also require migrating from their manufacturer’s app.

ChargeLab pays the referring member $25 for a qualifying referral.

BC and province-specific rebates

  • British Columbia: The BC Hydro/FortisBC home charger rebate covers up to 50% of eligible purchase and installation costs, to a $350 maximum. Portable chargers are excluded; charging-reward eligibility does not establish rebate eligibility.
  • BC Hydro Peak Saver: Eligible EV chargers can earn a separate $250 enrollment bill credit and $50 seasonal reward for allowing charging adjustments during peak demand. Confirm compatibility before combining it with a rewards platform.
  • Quebec: Écorecharge offers a $600 grant for eligible home charger purchases and installations.
  • Other provinces: Check the coverage column and your electricity plan. Where available, cheaper off-peak charging can reduce your costs alongside rewards.

For rentals, townhouses and strata installations, confirm the provider’s residence rules and required permissions. ChargeLab’s home program expressly excludes shared and multi-tenant chargers.

How much can you earn?

At a flat 10¢/kWh, 3,000 eligible kWh produces $300 in reward value.

A plan paying 3¢ for the first 1,500 kWh and 11¢ afterward produces approximately $210 over its first 3,000 kWh, assuming unchanged rates and eligible charging. A deposit refund returns your own money; it is separate from earnings.

An extra 1¢/kWh is only $30 on 3,000 kWh. Compare hardware costs, payout delays, minimum usage, app features and support before replacing a working charger.

Can you join more than one program?

Do not submit the same charger’s charging activity to competing carbon-credit programs. ChargeLab’s terms require exclusive credit rights. Confirm switching arrangements and incentive compatibility with the providers.
