Systems Architecture, Self-Hosting & Technical Problem Solving

Welcome! I’m Carlos Felicio, a technologist based in British Columbia with a passion for building, breaking, and optimizing complex systems. This blog serves as a repository of solutions for my “future self” and a resource for the global developer community to leverage the hours of troubleshooting I’ve already invested in these subjects.

Current Focus & Technical Interests

My work sits at the intersection of infrastructure, decentralization, and hardware. My current areas of active exploration include:

  • Smart Home Ecosystems: Utilizing Home Assistant and ESPHome to build my home automation stack
  • Infrastructure & DevOps: Managing a robust homelab environment using Docker, reverse proxies, and automated backup workflows.
  • Additive Manufacturing: Fine-tuning precision 3D printing workflows on my Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro.

The Foundation

My obsession with technology began with a screwdriver and a pile of “donated” toys. By age 10, I had moved from playing with toys to harvesting their components to build my own contraptions, most notably a self-propelled, wired foam boat. Those early days of soldering and scavenging laid the foundation for a career-long commitment to understanding exactly how things work under the hood.

Beyond the Screen

When I’m not optimizing my homelab or writing code, you’ll usually find me:

  • Refining my espresso extraction (the latte art remains a work in progress).
  • Exploring the trails and bike paths around beautiful BC, rain or shine.

I hope you find my writing informative. I’m always happy to hear your thoughts so we can learn and improve our knowledge together!
